Surfware now shipping SURFCAM Velocity® version 3.0 SP1

Release Announcement

June 12, 2007

Westlake Village, CA – June 12, 2007 — Surfware Inc., developer of SURFCAM CAD/CAM Systems, is now shipping the Service Pack 1 (SP1) for SURFCAM Velocity® version 3.0.

SURFCAM Velocity is the exclusive provider of the patented TrueMill® technology. TrueMill is the only toolpath engine that reduces machining time 30 to 50% by dynamically managing the tool-to-material engagement angle.

SURFCAM Velocity version 3.0 SP1 comes with extended functionality to further leverage the high-quality version 3.0, including

  • 5-Axis machining: A new multi-surface morphing cutting method has been implemented to get the cutter into hard to reach areas with precision and full collision avoidance.
  • Toolpath Containment: Dynamic smart-tags are intelligently displayed next to toolpath containment boundaries.
  • SolidWorks: Improved SolidWorks associativity that tracks not only the changes of a machined feature’s shape, but also tracks changes to the feature’s depth.
  • Graphics: System performance when rendering large MCAD models has been significantly improved.
  • CAD Interoperability: Open AutoCad® 2008 files. Stronger direct transfer of native Catia® layers.

This service pack extends the functionality of version 3.0. “With the 3.0 release, our customers have already realized large productivity gains across many manufacturing disciplines. This service pack provides an additional boost.” said Sashko Kurciski, Project Manager with Surfware, Inc.

The highlights from the version 3.0 release included:

  • Significantly enhanced 4- and 5-axis milling capabilities.
  • Version 3.0 delivered world-class 4– and 5-Axis operations for finishing cylinder heads, aerospace structures, power generation blades and blisks. This was the perfect complement to the TrueMill toolpath engine, the most profitable method of roughing and pre-finishing.
  • Advanced toolpath containment options.
  • Complete with APT-like Tool-To, -On, and -Past options, that provides precise control over any number of surfaces or model features.
  • Knowledge-based machining templates.
  • Templates that capture user knowledge and machining preferences to dramatically streamline the part-programming process.
  • Significant expansion of SURFCAM API (Application Programming Interface).
  • SURFCAM became more open and customizable to specific user needs than ever before.
