Micro End Mills. TrueMill Case Study

Once in a while a technology comes along that changes everything – that technology is SURFCAM's TrueMill used with micro end mills.

When using micro end mills, TrueMill allows the programmer to gain a huge advantage over a traditional toolpath. By controlling the cutter engagement angle, the programmer has total control over how much tool pressure the end mill is ever going to see. End mills typically break when they get buried in too deep and the cutter engagement angle shoots up. With TrueMill you can decide exactly how much engagement angle you'd like. When using tiny end mills this is invaluable.

The cutter can always be taking a nice light cut and because of this you can actually run the tool at high speeds and feeds. There's no need to slow things down to one inch per minute because you're worried the cutter will snap in a corner.

Another huge advantage of using TrueMill is that it always gradually engages the cutter into the work piece. There's never a sudden spike in tool pressure that will cause a micro end mill to snap. A TrueMill toolpath always engages and disengages the cutter on a nice smooth arc -- just what you want for a micro end mill.

With these advantages a machinist doesn't have to wince every time a job comes up that calls for a tiny end mill. They're not going to be constantly changing cutters out and praying the next one makes it to the end of the program. They're going to be machining with speed and confidence. There isn't anything frustrating about using micro end mills when you have a TrueMill tool path.

If your shop is using micro end mills, you need SURFCAM's TrueMill. There shouldn't be any question about it, it's what you use to mill small parts.
